Lipitor (Atorvastatin Calcium Tablets 10 mg)
Lipitor contains Atorvastatin Calcium, a synthetic lipid-lowering agent. It is a selective, competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme that converts 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A to mevalonate, a precursor of sterols, including cholesterol. By inhibiting this enzyme, it reduces plasma cholesterol and lipoprotein levels. This pack contains 30 tablets. Lipitor is indicated as an adjunct to diet to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, and triglycerides in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. It is also used for the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular events. Common side effects include nasopharyngitis, arthralgia, and gastrointestinal symptoms.
