Aciclovir 200 mg is an antiviral medication used to treat infections caused by certain types of viruses. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of herpes simplex virus infections of the skin and mucous membranes, including initial and recurrent genital herpes. It is also used for the suppression (prevention of recurrences) of recurrent herpes simplex infections in immunocompetent patients and for the prophylaxis of herpes simplex infections in immunocompromised patients. Aciclovir works by inhibiting viral DNA replication, thereby stopping the spread of the virus in the body. It does not cure herpes but helps the sores heal faster and relieves pain.
